Where to Watch Movies in Humboldt County

As much as streaming services like Netflix or Hulu are really cool, they are still limited. They often don’t feature movies that are recently released in DVD/Blu-Ray and frequently remove movies and TV shows every month. There are options to watch the newest Disney movie or classic foreign films in the county.

Renting isn’t dead! Here are some places where you can open accounts and rent some weird stuff.

Throughout the county:

Want to watch the movies you loved in theatres again? It’s possible!

There are more local theatres that play fan favorites.

Arcata:

This month, they’re playing classics like Gremlins, The Shining, and Polar Express in time for Christmas. They also have fancy seating and can order food, beer and wine. Highly recommend the 1 lb. of fries for $5 (so delicious).

It’s a bar that plays art house and foreign films, along with showing new episodes of The Walking Dead, how hipster is that? Brownies and drinks are good and strong. Now featuring The Love Witch, a Technicolor love letter of 1960s B-movies filmed locally.

Recently (re)opened (again) and finally locally owned, this historic theatre plays a balance of new releases and independent films. You can order locally made food along with beer and wine.

I personally love this theatre. It’s old and i’s finally getting the renovations it much needed. They recently started showing films, more so in the summer. The next film showing (showtime TBA) is the classic The Thin Man. I also enjoy going to their yearly Oscars showing party, where you can dress up and walk on the red carpet and eat free food while watching the Academy Awards.

Specifically for the summer:

Movies in the Park

Where they show family friendly films in Sequoia Park. For more info, go to http://www.filmhumboldtdelnorte.org/ and also check out their Facebook for events.

Los Bagels does a similar event in their Eureka and Arcata locations. Check out their wesbite http://www.losbagels.com/ and also check their Facebook page.

That’s all I think. Probably will update in the future.
